Additional Services at Abbey School

Extended and Caring Hours

During term times we are a productive and bustling Preparatory School and Nursery, but it doesn’t end there! Unlike most schools in Torbay, we are happy to care for your children at any time of the extended school day or year that we are in Abbey School, including all school holidays.

Normal School Day is between 9.00 and 3.00pm (Nursery & Infants) or 3.30pm (Juniors) but please remember we are flexible as outside the normal hours we open at 8.00am and close at 5.30pm from Monday to Friday and we are open all year round.

Additional hours of attendance are charged for by the hour and billed each term. Contact our Administrator for financial information and for current charges.

For further information on Extended or Caring hours send us an email or telephone the General Office on 01803-327868.

Holiday Activities enjoyed in our Holiday Club

We provide a full range of holiday activities for all children up to the age of 11 years.

We use all the school facilities for holiday activities and run a varied programme in our Abbey Adventures Holiday Club that is suitable for children from babies to 11 years of age, who many attend from all local Torbay schools and beyond.

Holiday Club activities include:

  • art and craft;
  • sport;
  • football days;
  • chess tournaments;
  • swimming;
  • cooking;
  • music and drama
  • fun for all

For a full programme of activities for any holiday, please email us or call us for details on 01803-327868.

Full-Time Care

In order to provide continuity of care for children who use our Holiday Club, Hobbies or Extended Hours facilities, many Abbey School staff are employed throughout the year, including during school holidays.

We open each day at 8.00am and close at 5.30pm all year long. Between these hours whether in Nursery, School or Holiday Club, we can care for your child.

For more information about full-time care, please contact the General Office by email or by telephone on 01803-327868.

Please Note: You may be entitled to financial assistance – contact the Administrator for the latest information or call us on 01803-327868.

Private Tuition

A selection of subjects is presented by specialist peripatetic teachers. These include:

  • musical instrument lessons;
  • speech & drama;
  • tennis coaching;
  • ballet;
  • chess.

For academic subjects, in school we have a learning support tutor whom we are happy to recommend to parents of pupils requiring specific learning support for such as dyslexia or dyspraxia.

We also have contact details for academic tutors, ex-Abbey teachers, prepared to tutor at each learning stage any child who may benefit from a quick boost of 10 to 12 lessons, perhaps over a holiday period.

For more information please email or telephone us on 01803-327868.

What parents say about our school

We are very pleased with the high standard of teaching and organised curriculum of Abbey school and would highly recommend sending your child to the school. The personalised learning style at Abbey school helps all of the individual needs of each pupil.

Mr R Cherry

We wrote after our daughters did so well in their GCSE's but have even more news to celebrate. In their A Level exams both have come in the top five results in the country for A Level Computing
