Policy for Healthy Eating
Mission Statement
At Abbey School we are committed to
offer a well balanced start in life for each pupil, providing a good base for
the children to build on in their next school.
Rationale
Healthy eating is a most important
aspect of a child’s development with this in mind we aim to ensure a child
receives a well-balanced diet, and is taught about the importance of Healthy
Eating.
Purpose
We incorporate a Healthy Eating
programme in our curriculum. We also
provide a well balanced school lunch that is cooked on the premises.
Guidelines

All children learn about the importance of a
healthy diet

We encourage a healthy snack at breaktime
·
We update our menu to meet the needs of the
children
·
We link our class projects to the menu and
encourage comments from the children
·
We encourage ‘good manners’ at the table
·
Children eat their meals in a safe environment
·
We encourage children to enjoy their meal at
lunchtime
·
We provide dietary requirements as necessary
·
We consult with parents regarding dietary
requirement
·
We regularly review our daily menu for the
school
Special Educational Needs
We aim to cater for the needs of all
children in our school menu.
Equal Opportunities
We ensure all children have access to a healthy
diet through the meals we provide at school.
Health and Safety
We are regularly inspected by the
Environmental Health and consumer Protection Division and carry out our own risk
assessment to ensure Safe Practice is followed.
All children are regularly reminded about Safe Practice – i.e
washing hands.
Staff attend food and hygiene courses.
