The Cost of Childcare

Families with young children are happy to afford childcare, and to pay for the best. We all recognise that if we cannot be there ourselves, our child needs specialist, professional support. What you may not realise, however, is that for a similar expenditure or very little more, Abbey School children from babies to 11 years old benefit from our Independent Nursery and Primary Education. Yes, that's right! Here, in the heart of Torbay, independent education isn't nearly as expensive as you thought - in fact, little more than regular childcare.

The Cost of Abbey Education

At Abbey School we want all children to enjoy the very special education and learning environment that we offer. For those who have always thought that the costs were too great, not so! For little more than the outlay of ordinary childcare, your child will benefit from our specialist educational programme, our dedicated learning environment and our professional and experienced teaching.  For details, see again our termly fees above, which can be paid monthly, or send email request for an appointment to discuss your financial queries with the Bursar on This Link or telephone 01803-327868

Abbey Nursery Termly Fees from September 2007

Attendance in the nursery is flexible and sessions are charged pro-rata in advance. We need to know in advance in order to have appropriate staffing levels. To find the fee appropriate for the sessions you wish your child to attend please use the table below; either take the five session cost if appropriate, or take the one session cost for your chosen session and multiply by your requirements. If you need varying sessions, say, a couple of mornings plus three afternoons with lunch then simply add up the sub totals to find your termly costs.

MILK if taken, is served in morning break and is charged termly pro rata according to attendance, presently at £19.50 per full-time term.

FEES FALL DUE on the first day of term and must be paid by then. Late payments incur a 5% surcharge. Payment options are available from the Bursar (eg payment by monthly direct debit, which also incurs a 5% surcharge, or yearly in advance, for which a discount is given). Our Bursar will also advise on any financial entitlements due.

*Nursery Grid for working out different fees for varied attendance

* Due to the additional care and attention required by children under the age of 2 years,
a 20% surcharge is made to the fees shown below for children in this age group.

Q    What do the fees include?
A    For all school-aged children fees incorporate academic tuition fees, lunch, stationery, use of text-books swimming lessons & most curriculum visits. Fees for the nursery incorporate all regular nursery education but excludes lunch unless stated. There is a small charge for swimming lessons for nursery children.

Q    What items are charged in addition to the above fees?
A    Other expenses incurred, for example: extra curricular activities involving Private Tuition such as ballet, speech & drama, music instrument lessons, tennis coaching, swimming lessons, instrument hire and music books, skiing, sailing, residential trips, break time milk, extra 'caring' hours before and after the normal school day and occasional small 'top up' charges for outings and Abbey Adventures Holiday Club.

Q    Do I have to pay anything else?
A    To benefit from an Abbey School place, a non-returnable Registration Fee must accompany your application, along with a returnable Deposit. Small expenditures occurring during your child's final term are deducted from the deposit and the balance returned at the end of the last term.

Please note, however, that if, after having paid your deposit your child should not, for any reason, take up on the date agreed, the place reserved by the payment of the deposit, both the deposit and the place reserved by payment of the deposit, are forfeited unless prior arrangements are made in writing with The Principal..

The Registration Fee is currently ..................................................... £20.00
The Deposit (returnable against your last account) is currently .............. £100.00

Q    Can I spread fee payments over the year or pay in advance?
A    We welcome all inquiries and are as flexible as possible with fee payments. Contact the school Bursar for more information. Please email the school on This Link  or telephone 01803 327868.

Q    Do you accept government Nursery Grants / Child Care Vouchers /Family Credit?
A    Yes, we accept all types of funding. Again, for more information contact the Bursar as above.

Q    What if I face financial problems during my child's time at The Abbey?
A    Are you claiming all your child-care allowances? Have you claimed the Government's Nursery Grant? Are you aware of Family Credit? New Deal for Lone Parents? Child Tax Credits? In certain circumstances the government will provide up to £100 per week for child-care in families with two children, or up to 70% of the child-care fees. It is also possible to take out insurances to safeguard payment of school fees under certain circumstances. This option is always worth considering and has proved a boon to many families over the years. Contact the Bursar if you would like to consider such options, and of course, straight away if you have problems, as there may be practical help and advice we can offer. Email the Bursar on This Link  or telephone to chat or for an appointment on 01803-327868.

On transferring from the nursery to school, once a Reception Class place has been confirmed, from this time, should this school place then not be taken, one term's notice in writing or school fees for a term in lieu of notice, becomes due.
